Playtime: Pebbles & Petals paintings in Neocolor II crayons
More explorations with Pebbles and Petals
On Monday I did a live demo with the week’s #coloricombo colours that were taken from pebbles on the Isle of Arran.
Theses five images are outcomes from the live demo:
More Pebbles & Petals
Using pebbles as sources for petal shapes and imaginary florals, along with the process of incorporating an actual pebble as a drawing ‘aid’ to create florals, is something I enjoyed so much that I recorded another demo incorporating ten Caran D’ache Neocolor II crayons.
These water soluble crayons have been around for fifty years and to celebrate this milestone, Caran D’ache have released five sets of Neocolor II crayons in different colour combinations with brand new crayons colours introduced to their range.
In the following video (viewable by everyone) I made a floral sketchbook drawing using all ten of the crayons from one of those five Neocolor II sets. This drawing started off as a quick sketch for planning a more complex pebble-inspired floral artwork on watercolour paper that is posted below. In the coming weeks I will be sharing more demos using the other four sets in the range.
A bigger floral artwork
Here is the bigger imaginary floral painted on a dark background. Caran D’ache Neocolor II and Luminance pencils were used on cold press watercolour paper. There’s a 45 minute long video of the full process below for contributing #coloricombo subscribers.

Floral Fusion starts at the end of June. This packed three week long course runs from 30 June to 20 July and is offered for the last time as a scheduled course. Learn more about watercolour, mixed media, layering techniques and explore ways to combine materials and processes to create dynamic outcomes. The course consists of three modules with five projects each, culminating in over 10 hours of recorded and edited lessons that comes with subtitles in English and Spanish.
