As I’m still playing catch-up there are more #coloricombo posts than usual this week.

For Week 30 I took these beautiful colours from the ‘Dolphin Fresco’ which was created around 3,500 years ago and graced the walls of the Palace of Knossos in Crete. It is now on my bucket list of places to go. Have you been there? Please let me know in the comments.

I will be in Greece next month teaching on two art retreats in Hydra. We had a cancellation and there is now one place available on the second retreat from 27 September to 5 October, would you like to join us in this very special location?

Hydra Retreat

Mixing

I’m mixing the colours Powder Blue, Saffron, Cadet Blue & Sky Blue using Golden Artist Colour QoR acrylics. These are my go-to paints, especially when I’m travelling.

Here’s the colours used:

  • Powder Blue = Ultramarine Blue

  • Saffron = Diarylide Yellow

  • Cadet Blue = Paynes Grey + Phathlo Blue + Ultramarine Blue

  • Sky Blue = Phthalo Blue + White Gouache

Artwork

I created a simple fish artwork by means of cardboard tube stamping along with painting using Week 30’s colours. If you have signed up as a full subscriber (thank you!), you can see the full fifteen minute demo showing the process linked to the Loopy Loop stamping technique to create the two bright fish below.

Support Coloricombo

Coloricombo started as an Instagram challenge in 2021 and became an ongoing program of weekly colour focussed prompts linked to an artist from the past and a monthly theme. Curating these prompts is a labour of love for me as a curious creative, but it takes a chunk of time to curate the content together every week. Please consider subscribing, there is a payment option of $8 per month or $80 per annum to help cover the time I give to Coloricombo.

In return for your contribution, you’ll get access to colour mixing demos and regular demos of artworks being created using different techniques and processes, exclusive substantial discounts on my courses and occasional give-aways of art materials and products.
