Although he’s most famously known for ‘discovering’ the Blue Grotto, the colours I shared from a work by August Kopisch weren’t blues in the slightest.
The colours are instead from an oil painting by Kopisch, titled The Pontine Marshes at Sunset.
The marshes themselves used to be southeast of Rome, but they don’t exist anymore! They were drained and the land reclaimed in the early 20th century, mainly to combat the spread of malaria.
Mixing
The colours for this weeks prompt are Burnt Orange, Custard, Green Grey & Deep Taupe.
Who commented on the Creative Prompts Facebook group that if their custard was that colour they wouldn’t eat it? You’ve obviously never experienced the ‘delights’ of Ultra Mel, loved by generations of South Africans!
Two Years of #coloricombo Archives
Did you know that this is the third year I’ve been curating #coloricombo? I moved to the current Substack platform at the beginning of 2024, all of the prompts for 2022 and 2023 are available to purchase from my formal course library (one of the ways you can support #coloricombo. Have a look at Coloricombo 2022 and Coloricombo 2023 or at all available courses by clicking here.
Artwork
I used this week’s colour mixes to put together a quick floral artwork using brushes and stamping.
Full subscribers can view the eight minute demo of this floral artwork. A full subscription costs only $9 per month or $90 per year: that works out at about $1.50 for each week’s #coloricombo.
